Thank you all. I finally managed to build a custom kernel. I resorted to reading the instructions in the documentation. Just like they say, "If all else fails read the instructions". I followed the instructions step by step, added the amateur radio features that I wanted in the config file using xconfig, followed the remaining steps in the instructions and everything else was automatic. If I had done this to begin with, even a dummy like me would have had absolutely no problem customizing the RedHat 9 kernel. John / KC4TXC
