Summary:                    Terratec USB surround broken
Description:
I'm using a Terratec USB 5.1 card. The 6 channels test correctly using
'./speaker-test -c6', but any attempt to use 5.1 channel in Xine, or using
'aplay -Dsurround51 file.wav' results in errors e.g.
-----
ALSA lib pcm.c:1851:(snd_pcm_open_conf) Invalid type for PCM surround51
definition (id: surround51, value: cards.pcm.surround51)
aplay: main:508: audio open error: Invalid argument
-----
Xine similarly fails saying the sound card is in use. Xine works fine for
stereo audio, even when configured to use 5.1 channel sound.

The contents of /proc/asound/card0/stream0 are:
USB Audio at usb-0000:00:10.2-1, full speed : USB Audio

Playback:
  Status: Stop
  Interface 1
    Altset 1
    Format: S16_LE
    Channels: 2
    Endpoint: 1 OUT (ADAPTIVE)
    Rates: 48000
  Interface 1
    Altset 2
    Format: S16_LE
    Channels: 6
    Endpoint: 1 OUT (ADAPTIVE)
    Rates: 48000

Capture:
  Status: Running
    Interface = 2
    Altset = 1
    URBs = 5 [ 4 4 4 4 4 ]
    Packet Size = 200
    Momentary freq = 48000 Hz
  Interface 2
    Altset 1
    Format: S16_LE
    Channels: 2
    Endpoint: 2 IN (ASYNC)
    Rates: 48000

Audio from, say, downloaded MP3s sounds fine, but any audio I've recorded
(in whatever program) has to have its sample rate changed, or it sounds
too fast.

I just tried 'default' in the configuration for 5.1 channel sound in Xine,
and it works just fine. Yay.

I forgot to mention, I'm recording through the digital (optical) input from
a 44.1kHz source (a MiniDisc deck).
