No, this is why ALSA provides OSS emulation, so every legacy app doesn't have to be recoded. For gaming you should use the closed-source Nvidia drivers and ALSA's OSS emulation. I don't think anyone can make a serious argument that Nvidia should open source their drivers, they shouldn't have to disclose their IP just to have their devices work in Linux, and you know what you are getting when you buy the hardware.
