Yes, of course.  The whole reason we need to do this horrible hackery is
to support old applications that use an obsolete sound API, we basically
have to be bug-for-bug compatible, to support old applications that the
developers cannot or will not update.  The actual fix is to update
Quake3 to use the ALSA sound API.

No, of course not.  But anytime you want to run legacy apps on a modern
system, it won't be 100% perfect.

A shocking number of closed source applications *still* use OSS for
their new versions (flashplayer7 for example).  The only fix for this is
a LART.
