Ooops...
1) The mail copied to the list has just the one file inline; the one
sent to tiwai@suse.de directly has all the requested files attached.
2) I'm not sure that the /etc/asound.state I attached would have been
consistent with the settings I described (and the files from /proc). I
applied the settings after booting using alsamixer, but they disappear
on the next boot (on 2.6.10 only). Therefore I attach /etc/asound.state
after applying the settings with alsamixer AND restarting the runlevel
script.
Also, just to be clear I do not have a digital output socket on my
computer.
