I never used multicast and actually I have no idea what is going wrong there. Hopefully someone is debugging it and send in a patch to fix it. Another alternate option can be to make the multicast and protocol filter options a module parameter. Both patches are welcome, but until then there is no other chance the recompiling the kernel, I think.
