Never mind, I just tested and it seems to restore the settings correctly, whether the card is called Audigy2 or SB0350. It looks like alsactl is much smarter than it used to be. So please disregard the part of my message about mixer settings, for -stable we just have to handle the ac97/noac97 type issues.
