While for your issue, its quite strange.
Currently, we are using 512 byte sector protected with 8 bit ECC.
With this configuration, we will need around 58 bytes at OOB.
This is to accommodate 2 bytes bad block market + 42 bytes data + 14
bytes ECC.
Wonder you are using different configuration?
