IPU6 Camera with ov08x40 (OVTI08F4 sensor) HP Spectre 16" Meteor Lake doesn't work

Dear All,
I would like to get the camera in my HP Spectre 16" laptop working under linux.
I have reported this to the libcamera group, and they suggested posting here:

I have compiled a custom kernel with the kernel module for what I _think_ is my camera, and it is detected on boot:

This laptop has an electronic shutter, activated by a Function key, and under linux (Debian Sid/Trixie), I can toggle the shutter.

The image that qcam shows is attached. It _looks_ like the same symbol Windows shows when the shutter is closed - just maybe reversed.

If I try the same with the shutter open, my laptop freezes, and I have to do a power-down reset.

I am fairly handy and am willing to help, I just need some guidance into what I need to do next
