I have one a > few weeks old and it's already making some evil sounding noises... A lot? Sometimes you can hear a disk recalibrate, which is not bad, but that should be only now and then. Do you have disk related errors in your logs? Try to run an ibm drive fitness program and see what it tells you about the disk.
