OK, I tried the version available yesterday.  It had the same
problem, i.e. short writes.

I get the same problem regardless of whether it's called xda or
hda.  I did not try xda with yesterday's snapshot.

This file doesn't seem to be available for 2.4.26, which is what
I'm using.  I do find it in the 2.6.7 sparse tree.
