Indeedy.  I'm in -rc1 atm, so I don't want to reboot yet again to see
  if that protocol bit works.  If I end up getting curious enough,
  I'll send word if it works.  :)

dmesg output, non-mouse output trimmed (for obvious reasons, if you think
  about it ;) is attached.
