mdassembled was devise for this purpose.
create an /etc/mdadm.conf with
echo "DEVICE partitions" >> /etc/mdadm.conf
/sbin/mdadm -D -b /dev/md0 | grep '^ARRAY' >> /etc/mdadm.conf
copy the mdadm.conf and mdassemble to initrd
make linuxrc run mdassemble.
