I had this one testcase:
~/src/elinks/0.11 > cg-object-id --verify e6b6
cg-object-id: unrecognized option `--verify'
~/src/elinks/0.11 > cg-object-id e6b6
e6b65b543108bfeb95ea24978112b46e34cfde87
Could it have something to do with the local packing?
