Where's the sarcasm?

Looking at [1], the change to include/linux/kernel.h I'm so heavily 
criticized for in this thread broke the compilation of 2.6.16-mm2 
on 3 or 4 out of our 24 architectures.

Which less extreme approach would for sure have prevented this?
