Hmm, it seems to be outside _edata now. There are a couple of references,
but I'm not sure they actually matter
arch/x86_64/kernel/setup.c:370: init_mm.end_data = (unsigned long) &_edata;
arch/x86_64/kernel/setup.c:376: data_resource.end = virt_to_phys(&_edata)-1;
arch/x86_64/mm/init.c:616: datasize = (unsigned long) &_edata - (unsigned long) &_etext;
arch/x86_64/kernel/vmlinux.lds.S:68: _edata = .; /* End of data section */
arch/x86_64/boot/compressed/head.S:61: movl $_edata,%edi
init_mm shouldn't matter here. Maybe it not being reserved
as a resource had a bad side effect though, although I would
have thought that the rest of the kernel code would have been
reserved anyways (e.g. init data cannot be overwritten by
resources either). That's probably a bug, but a unrelated one.
I suppose the patch has broken /proc/kcore at least too according
to the mm/init.c reference. I removed it for now.
Thanks for tracking it down.
