The loss of 1400x1050 is due to your xserver not having commit
4b5b6e7baab58072a983d2ec136965f404c3a74a "fix max clock unit".

You either need a newer xserver, or to follow instructions III.5 in
http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/HowToRandR12, with a modeline of
Modeline "1400x1050_74.8"  155.80  1400 1464 1784 1912  1050 1052 1064 1090
+hsync +vsync
