I brought this idea because qemu/kvm + vde users are sometimes confused by qemu option and vde vlan (which is 802.1Q) and they come to us looking for help. I totally agree in writing better documentation, but probably having more intuitive (or less ambiguous) command line options is a good idea. In this case I've proposed to change qemu option because nowadays the most common vlan implementation is 802.1Q which is then usually referred as VLAN.
