This should be a last ressort. Fortunately, we have a better solution,
which you pointed out youself: make sure the filesystem works by actually
reading the file.
Felix, did you have some code to do make_path_relative_to_its_root() in C?
Then we can re-enable the check in grub-probe, fixing this problem.
