what kernel version (uname -a)
please show either
# grep . /proc/acpi/thermal*/*/
or
# grep . /sys/class/thermal/*/*
to show us what the trip points and current temperatures are.
if you booth without the thinkpad_acpi driver,
does the system behave differently?
