You need ACCESS_ONCE() in all "pgd = ACCESS_ONCE(*pgdp)", "pud =
ACCESS_ONCE(*pudp)" otherwise the compiler could decide your change is
a noop.

I think you could remove the #ifdef CONFIG_TRANSPARENT_HUGEPAGE too.
