Style: elsewhere this file seems to use cuddled elses:
} elsif (...) {
Or more simply, would it make sense to wrap both 'defined' checks into
a single "if", like so?
if (defined $entry->{$check} && defined $query->{$check}) {
...
} else {
log_debug(...);
}
