If it's more than 127, then it results in memory corruption in the caller, nci_hci_connect_gate(). The Linux kernel CVE team has assigned CVE-2025-21735 to this issue. Affected and fixed versions =========================== Issue introduced in 4.4 with commit a1b0b9415817c14d207921582f269d03f848b69f and fixed in 6.1.129 with commit d5a461c315e5ff92657f84d8ba50caa5abf5c22a Issue introduced in 4.4 with commit a1b0b9415817c14d207921582f269d03f848b69f and fixed in 6.6.78 with commit 172cdfc3a5ea20289c58fb73dadc6fd4a8784a4e Issue introduced in 4.4 with commit a1b0b9415817c14d207921582f269d03f848b69f and fixed in 6.12.14 with commit 2ae4bade5a64d126bd18eb66bd419005c5550218 Issue introduced in 4.4 with commit a1b0b9415817c14d207921582f269d03f848b69f and fixed in 6.13.3 with commit 59c7ed20217c0939862fbf8145bc49d5b3a13f4f Issue introduced in 4.4 with commit a1b0b9415817c14d207921582f269d03f848b69f and fixed in 6.14-rc1 with commit 110b43ef05342d5a11284cc8b21582b698b4ef1c Please see https://www.kernel.org for a full list of currently supported kernel versions by the kernel community. Unaffected versions might change over time as fixes are backported to older supported kernel versions. The official CVE entry at https://cve.org/CVERecord/?id=CVE-2025-21735 will be updated if fixes are backported, please check that for the most up to date information about this issue. Affected files ============== The file(s) affected by this issue are: net/nfc/nci/hci.c Mitigation ========== The Linux kernel CVE team recommends that you update to the latest stable kernel version for this, and many other bugfixes. Individual changes are never tested alone, but rather are part of a larger kernel release. Cherry-picking individual commits is not recommended or supported by the Linux kernel community at all. If however, updating to the latest release is impossible, the individual changes to resolve this issue can be found at these commits: https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/d5a461c315e5ff92657f84d8ba50caa5abf5c22a https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/172cdfc3a5ea20289c58fb73dadc6fd4a8784a4e https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/2ae4bade5a64d126bd18eb66bd419005c5550218 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/59c7ed20217c0939862fbf8145bc49d5b3a13f4f https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/110b43ef05342d5a11284cc8b21582b698b4ef1c
