If such a section is added to the firmware section list, section->mem is left as NULL. Later reload and unplug paths iterate over all firmware sections and dereference section->mem, which can lead to a NULL pointer dereference. Zero-sized firmware sections are valid, so accept them as no-op entries but skip adding them to the section list. The Linux kernel CVE team has assigned CVE-2026-80577 to this issue. Affected and fixed versions =========================== Issue introduced in 6.10 with commit 2718d91816eeed03c09c8abe872e45f59078768c and fixed in 6.12.105 with commit f0f3c3922db981031733a25c51e1f37cf9b9e251 Issue introduced in 6.10 with commit 2718d91816eeed03c09c8abe872e45f59078768c and fixed in 6.18.46 with commit 25556a46ae6ecf2a9f1c1c5096828eecd4596b91 Issue introduced in 6.10 with commit 2718d91816eeed03c09c8abe872e45f59078768c and fixed in 7.1.10 with commit 5d222b657f02a37f658e4e21925b85b4703855e7 Issue introduced in 6.10 with commit 2718d91816eeed03c09c8abe872e45f59078768c and fixed in 7.2 with commit 2b8f13d3c7e26c46c20d9e367904cf01729c88e6 Please see https://www.kernel.org for a full list of currently supported kernel versions by the kernel community. Unaffected versions might change over time as fixes are backported to older supported kernel versions. The official CVE entry at https://cve.org/CVERecord/?id=CVE-2026-80577 will be updated if fixes are backported, please check that for the most up to date information about this issue. Affected files ============== The file(s) affected by this issue are: drivers/gpu/drm/panthor/panthor_fw.c Mitigation ========== The Linux kernel CVE team recommends that you update to the latest stable kernel version for this, and many other bugfixes. Individual changes are never tested alone, but rather are part of a larger kernel release. Cherry-picking individual commits is not recommended or supported by the Linux kernel community at all. If however, updating to the latest release is impossible, the individual changes to resolve this issue can be found at these commits: https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/f0f3c3922db981031733a25c51e1f37cf9b9e251 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/25556a46ae6ecf2a9f1c1c5096828eecd4596b91 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/5d222b657f02a37f658e4e21925b85b4703855e7 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/2b8f13d3c7e26c46c20d9e367904cf01729c88e6
