Since the use_count and core_put() is handled within the widget_free function we need to return without falling through the pipe_widget_free label. The fixes tag is picked to the last change around this part of the code which is adequately old enough for backporting purposes. The Linux kernel CVE team has assigned CVE-2026-80911 to this issue. Unaffected versions might change over time as fixes are backported to older supported kernel versions. The official CVE entry at https://cve.org/CVERecord/?id=CVE-2026-80911 will be updated if fixes are backported, please check that for the most up to date information about this issue. Affected files ============== The file(s) affected by this issue are: sound/soc/sof/sof-audio.c Mitigation ========== The Linux kernel CVE team recommends that you update to the latest stable kernel version for this, and many other bugfixes. Individual changes are never tested alone, but rather are part of a larger kernel release. Cherry-picking individual commits is not recommended or supported by the Linux kernel community at all. If however, updating to the latest release is impossible, the individual changes to resolve this issue can be found at these commits: https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/b270ed327380428581bbcbd85707f62e942428d7 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/c06995637f6a4667f2b540ac65315bfc8196a099 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/8cba53b862e1437257ec206d303ff942684284f1 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/d48691e70d4a9434b71039d4ed12bb0df4601acf https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/e780e4917d43683224812400fe3dc4816fceba75
