If the wait times out, or is interrupted before the handler runs, the function returns without balancing the enable_irq() call. Disable the IRQ before leaving the failed wait path. Also preserve an interrupted wait's original error code instead of converting it to -ETIMEDOUT inside the helper. The Linux kernel CVE team has assigned CVE-2026-80930 to this issue. Affected and fixed versions =========================== Issue introduced in 3.13 with commit 4c336e4b1556f4b722ba597bc6e3df786968a600 and fixed in 6.12.109 with commit 73e89faee1f9b9119fa70b679058b045168ae633 Issue introduced in 3.13 with commit 4c336e4b1556f4b722ba597bc6e3df786968a600 and fixed in 6.18.50 with commit cde2d927c29e82380851f209222256c607969a1f Issue introduced in 3.13 with commit 4c336e4b1556f4b722ba597bc6e3df786968a600 and fixed in 7.2.4 with commit aee2296d09f6aeff41db369c6fd2dcaea3ee302c Issue introduced in 3.13 with commit 4c336e4b1556f4b722ba597bc6e3df786968a600 and fixed in 7.3-rc1 with commit 705c4ed0643366963547b2616d53165f2519c81f Please see https://www.kernel.org for a full list of currently supported kernel versions by the kernel community. Unaffected versions might change over time as fixes are backported to older supported kernel versions. The official CVE entry at https://cve.org/CVERecord/?id=CVE-2026-80930 will be updated if fixes are backported, please check that for the most up to date information about this issue. Affected files ============== The file(s) affected by this issue are: drivers/char/tpm/tpm_i2c_nuvoton.c Mitigation ========== The Linux kernel CVE team recommends that you update to the latest stable kernel version for this, and many other bugfixes. Individual changes are never tested alone, but rather are part of a larger kernel release. Cherry-picking individual commits is not recommended or supported by the Linux kernel community at all. If however, updating to the latest release is impossible, the individual changes to resolve this issue can be found at these commits: https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/73e89faee1f9b9119fa70b679058b045168ae633 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/cde2d927c29e82380851f209222256c607969a1f https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/aee2296d09f6aeff41db369c6fd2dcaea3ee302c https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/705c4ed0643366963547b2616d53165f2519c81f
