Fix that by adding a call to kfree(). The Linux kernel CVE team has assigned CVE-2026-80974 to this issue. Affected and fixed versions =========================== Issue introduced in 2.6.21 with commit b6d6454fdb66f3829af8b92ab06825b6060fdf7e and fixed in 6.12.109 with commit fcc6c3b11d73459e0d55b27c98cc56d59fef4d82 Issue introduced in 2.6.21 with commit b6d6454fdb66f3829af8b92ab06825b6060fdf7e and fixed in 6.18.50 with commit 94ca4f040ba489db2d4b66e9d1ee91b4f9a00534 Issue introduced in 2.6.21 with commit b6d6454fdb66f3829af8b92ab06825b6060fdf7e and fixed in 7.2.4 with commit c8be3a076a59ec793fb2e4bdb830a709aaea9cce Issue introduced in 2.6.21 with commit b6d6454fdb66f3829af8b92ab06825b6060fdf7e and fixed in 7.3-rc1 with commit 83feedd9d83c0c5199f98c72df0a6196b4aefb4d Please see https://www.kernel.org for a full list of currently supported kernel versions by the kernel community. Unaffected versions might change over time as fixes are backported to older supported kernel versions. The official CVE entry at https://cve.org/CVERecord/?id=CVE-2026-80974 will be updated if fixes are backported, please check that for the most up to date information about this issue. Affected files ============== The file(s) affected by this issue are: drivers/mfd/sm501.c Mitigation ========== The Linux kernel CVE team recommends that you update to the latest stable kernel version for this, and many other bugfixes. Individual changes are never tested alone, but rather are part of a larger kernel release. Cherry-picking individual commits is not recommended or supported by the Linux kernel community at all. If however, updating to the latest release is impossible, the individual changes to resolve this issue can be found at these commits: https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/fcc6c3b11d73459e0d55b27c98cc56d59fef4d82 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/94ca4f040ba489db2d4b66e9d1ee91b4f9a00534 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/c8be3a076a59ec793fb2e4bdb830a709aaea9cce https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/83feedd9d83c0c5199f98c72df0a6196b4aefb4d
