The work needs to be canceled before the interface can be freed. The Linux kernel CVE team has assigned CVE-2026-81004 to this issue. Affected and fixed versions =========================== Issue introduced in 6.18.20 with commit edb6c2118293c1fba9cd11ca80ed043d2411a7e5 and fixed in 6.18.50 with commit 99692252b348c11377fd0cdd66b6b18f3b22758e Issue introduced in 7.0 with commit 62cd145453d577113f993efd025f258dd86aa183 and fixed in 7.2.4 with commit a496c51dd3257ed7e00873af2ad9bb22c3ddc4cf Issue introduced in 7.0 with commit 62cd145453d577113f993efd025f258dd86aa183 and fixed in 7.3-rc1 with commit ae84a2536577057e97f23f75a202e26d0e86cf01 Issue introduced in 6.19.10 with commit 5199fc5dc9c519115457406009fcefd50721c995 Please see https://www.kernel.org for a full list of currently supported kernel versions by the kernel community. Unaffected versions might change over time as fixes are backported to older supported kernel versions. The official CVE entry at https://cve.org/CVERecord/?id=CVE-2026-81004 will be updated if fixes are backported, please check that for the most up to date information about this issue. Affected files ============== The file(s) affected by this issue are: drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_msghandler.c Mitigation ========== The Linux kernel CVE team recommends that you update to the latest stable kernel version for this, and many other bugfixes. Individual changes are never tested alone, but rather are part of a larger kernel release. Cherry-picking individual commits is not recommended or supported by the Linux kernel community at all. If however, updating to the latest release is impossible, the individual changes to resolve this issue can be found at these commits: https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/99692252b348c11377fd0cdd66b6b18f3b22758e https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/a496c51dd3257ed7e00873af2ad9bb22c3ddc4cf https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/ae84a2536577057e97f23f75a202e26d0e86cf01
