If sysfs_create_file() fails, the error path only drops the device reference and leaves the device registered. Hence, call device_del() in the error path before put_device(). The Linux kernel CVE team has assigned CVE-2026-90402 to this issue. Affected and fixed versions =========================== Issue introduced in 6.10 with commit 17553ba8e19dee8770b3dcc597d49dcc3418f3b0 and fixed in 6.12.110 with commit 7943dc67250fad6ceac0dd089c6ad5776e4be71d Issue introduced in 6.10 with commit 17553ba8e19dee8770b3dcc597d49dcc3418f3b0 and fixed in 6.18.52 with commit 4fb17a7c437f145353e93e6a9791f6db70e1cc63 Issue introduced in 6.10 with commit 17553ba8e19dee8770b3dcc597d49dcc3418f3b0 and fixed in 7.2.6 with commit 4743959aa8d876b5b456a62e8a62eb770db7afe9 Issue introduced in 6.10 with commit 17553ba8e19dee8770b3dcc597d49dcc3418f3b0 and fixed in 7.3-rc1 with commit 0d5b9e66591d4e2a4376ac82c8cda889a29ba3ee Please see https://www.kernel.org for a full list of currently supported kernel versions by the kernel community. Unaffected versions might change over time as fixes are backported to older supported kernel versions. The official CVE entry at https://cve.org/CVERecord/?id=CVE-2026-90402 will be updated if fixes are backported, please check that for the most up to date information about this issue. Affected files ============== The file(s) affected by this issue are: drivers/bus/mhi/host/init.c Mitigation ========== The Linux kernel CVE team recommends that you update to the latest stable kernel version for this, and many other bugfixes. Individual changes are never tested alone, but rather are part of a larger kernel release. Cherry-picking individual commits is not recommended or supported by the Linux kernel community at all. If however, updating to the latest release is impossible, the individual changes to resolve this issue can be found at these commits: https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/7943dc67250fad6ceac0dd089c6ad5776e4be71d https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/4fb17a7c437f145353e93e6a9791f6db70e1cc63 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/4743959aa8d876b5b456a62e8a62eb770db7afe9 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/0d5b9e66591d4e2a4376ac82c8cda889a29ba3ee
