The return value is passed directly to sas_port_add() without a NULL check, which causes a NULL pointer dereference. Additionally, if sas_port_add() fails, the allocated port is not freed before jumping to out_fail, leaking the sas_port structure. Call sas_port_free() to properly release it. The Linux kernel CVE team has assigned CVE-2026-98129 to this issue. Affected and fixed versions =========================== Issue introduced in 6.1 with commit e22bae30667a7e74ed057e00fb6e8c79e0738de3 and fixed in 6.12.111 with commit 5c50137ba11b6e20e7074303dae35ff58d5a0b6f Issue introduced in 6.1 with commit e22bae30667a7e74ed057e00fb6e8c79e0738de3 and fixed in 6.18.53 with commit 2f69ed909de9e3d46af9db7dd24b9b80dc31b5ec Issue introduced in 6.1 with commit e22bae30667a7e74ed057e00fb6e8c79e0738de3 and fixed in 7.2.7 with commit 5cb58b052cf09dd8e88d92c1d649b3eea5c95d4d Issue introduced in 6.1 with commit e22bae30667a7e74ed057e00fb6e8c79e0738de3 and fixed in 7.3-rc2 with commit dba9e2181ca5e875f98b8b9b4535cdaab87dcb0d Please see https://www.kernel.org for a full list of currently supported kernel versions by the kernel community. Unaffected versions might change over time as fixes are backported to older supported kernel versions. The official CVE entry at https://cve.org/CVERecord/?id=CVE-2026-98129 will be updated if fixes are backported, please check that for the most up to date information about this issue. Affected files ============== The file(s) affected by this issue are: drivers/scsi/mpi3mr/mpi3mr_transport.c Mitigation ========== The Linux kernel CVE team recommends that you update to the latest stable kernel version for this, and many other bugfixes. Individual changes are never tested alone, but rather are part of a larger kernel release. Cherry-picking individual commits is not recommended or supported by the Linux kernel community at all. If however, updating to the latest release is impossible, the individual changes to resolve this issue can be found at these commits: https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/5c50137ba11b6e20e7074303dae35ff58d5a0b6f https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/2f69ed909de9e3d46af9db7dd24b9b80dc31b5ec https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/5cb58b052cf09dd8e88d92c1d649b3eea5c95d4d https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/dba9e2181ca5e875f98b8b9b4535cdaab87dcb0d
