Deleting iocpf_timer last does not fix this. sem_timer and iocpf_timer rearm each other: bnad_iocpf_sem_timeout() can arm iocpf_timer, and bnad_iocpf_timeout() arms sem_timer from bfa_ioc_hw_sem_get() when the semaphore is busy. timer_delete_sync() only waits out its own callback. bnad_ioceth_disable() can time out and leave that callback live. Shut all four IOC timers down with timer_shutdown_sync() on both paths, so a later mod_timer() is ignored. This issue was identified during our ongoing static-analysis research while reviewing kernel code. The Linux kernel CVE team has assigned CVE-2026-98544 to this issue. Affected and fixed versions =========================== Issue introduced in 2.6.38 with commit 1d32f7696286eef9e5644eb57e79a36756274357 and fixed in 6.12.112 with commit 28e32ace754b57534ef0ca0fb99bcbea5b13ba2a Issue introduced in 2.6.38 with commit 1d32f7696286eef9e5644eb57e79a36756274357 and fixed in 6.18.55 with commit 4d97a141e85a034566c33c7ed854c8a3e8a268f1 Issue introduced in 2.6.38 with commit 1d32f7696286eef9e5644eb57e79a36756274357 and fixed in 7.2.9 with commit e09d1c6729ee4a7812128902d9274ff565f958b8 Issue introduced in 2.6.38 with commit 1d32f7696286eef9e5644eb57e79a36756274357 and fixed in 7.3-rc5 with commit 77b1718e39e5c9f6956fb60807326af20baf889d Please see https://www.kernel.org for a full list of currently supported kernel versions by the kernel community. Unaffected versions might change over time as fixes are backported to older supported kernel versions. The official CVE entry at https://cve.org/CVERecord/?id=CVE-2026-98544 will be updated if fixes are backported, please check that for the most up to date information about this issue. Affected files ============== The file(s) affected by this issue are: drivers/net/ethernet/brocade/bna/bnad.c Mitigation ========== The Linux kernel CVE team recommends that you update to the latest stable kernel version for this, and many other bugfixes. Individual changes are never tested alone, but rather are part of a larger kernel release. Cherry-picking individual commits is not recommended or supported by the Linux kernel community at all. If however, updating to the latest release is impossible, the individual changes to resolve this issue can be found at these commits: https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/28e32ace754b57534ef0ca0fb99bcbea5b13ba2a https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/4d97a141e85a034566c33c7ed854c8a3e8a268f1 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/e09d1c6729ee4a7812128902d9274ff565f958b8 https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/77b1718e39e5c9f6956fb60807326af20baf889d
