Subject: [RFC PATCH v3 02/13] KVM: guest_memfd: Dispatch attribute conversion through backing operations
Date: Sun, 1 Nov 2026 12:49:16 +0530 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <20261101071928.2462549-3-aneesh.kumar@kernel.org> (raw)
In-Reply-To: <20261101071928.2462549-1-aneesh.kumar@kernel.org>
Device backing needs different validation and architecture conversion
from RAM, while sharing the same locking, guest invalidation and
attribute publication sequence.
Introduce backing operations for prepare_attributes(), make_private()
and make_shared(), selected after provider attachment. Move the existing
folio and RAM PFN handling behind these operations.
Route fault-time private RAM preparation through prepare_private_pfn()
as well. Folio and RAM PFN backing retain the existing architecture
conversion hook; device backing can omit it without a device check in
the common PFN lookup path.
This provides the common sequence and backing-specific hooks needed by
the subsequent device-memory support.
