FWIW, the website could be a bit clearer...

I just logged into members.x.org, and was greeted by a message that said:

    Welcome Kenneth Graunke
    Member since 2010-09-16

Based on the fact that I logged in successfully, and the website greeted me as
a member, I would have suspected my membership was current.  However, this
email made me check the "List of Members" page, where I noticed I was not
listed.  Then I discovered the "Renew my membership" button in navigation bar,
and reapplied.

Perhaps the above text could be changed to say:

   Member since [date] <b>EXPIRED</b> - <a href="...">Renew</a>

That may help draw attention to the fact that people need to take action.
