Subject: PROBLEM: kernel panic while copying files
Date: Wed, 01 Nov 2000 11:08:45 -0500	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <3A00400D.4981E278@bell.ca> (raw)

[1.] One line summary of the problem:

kernel panic while copying files

[2.] Full description of the problem/report:

When I copy a 450 MB file from one partition (/usr) to another (/tmp) I
get a kernel panic. It happens everytime I copy that file. The amount
of data copied before the kernel panic is not always the same. These
two partitions use ext2fs.

[3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel):

xx

[4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version):

The problem happens with kernel 2.4.0-test{1,5,8,9}
and it doesn't happen with kernel 2.2.{14,17}

I would like to use newer kernels since I want to add XFS support (SGI's
filesystem). Although I must specify that my problems are happening
even with kernel that have not had the XFS patch applied.

[5.] Output of Oops.. message (if applicable) with symbolic information
     resolved (see Documentation/oops-tracing.txt)

xx

[6.] A small shell script or example program which triggers the
     problem (if possible)

cp /usr/blah1 /tmp

THIS IS THE OUTPUT WHEN I BOOT THE "WORKING KERNEL" (2.2.17)
