Thanks! It is updated. I did a quick test and all seems fine. But, let
me know if something isn't working right.

There seems to be some sort of trouble with the SF
CVS- trying to browse the CVS version (the only
remotely up-to-date one) gets a 502 Proxy error, and
logging in anonymously gets:

cvs
-d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/elks
login
Logging in to
:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:2401/cvsroot/elks
CVS password:
cvs login: authorization failed: server
cvs.sourceforge.net rejected access to /cvsroot/elks
for user anonymous

Does anyone know what's going on?

I checked the sourceforge site, and it states that:

Project CVS Services:
Developer (SSH) CVS access online; pserver-based CVS access and ViewCVS
(web-based) access offline

(2003-01-14 14:04:19 - Project CVS Services) As of 2003-01-14, pserver-based
CVS repository access and ViewCVS (web-based) CVS repository access have been
taken offline as to stabilize CVS server performance for developers. These
services will be re-enabled as soon as the underlying scalability issues have
been analyzed and resolved (as soon as 2003-01-15, if possible). Additional
updates will be posted to the Site Status page as they become available. Your
patience is appreciated.

So I guess there is nothing to be done but wait...

Is it possible to make a snapshot available?

Pieter

Hi, good morning.

I just have one question. I am looking for a software that can allow me to
mantain differents versions of the same document, version 1, version 2,
version 3 and so on. What I want is that the user ( based on a
username/password ) can upload the document ( via Web Interface ) and once
the document is at the server everybody can make comments, opinions, etc
about it. Is it possible to do this with CVS? or do you know of an
open-soruce software that does something like this?, or perhaps something
commercial?

As always thank you very much for all your knowledge.

Hi

I have a slightly off topic question: How do you control your Linux files?

I tried to use CVS and wanted to keep all files stored in there. I imported
directories containing complete Linux distributions....

I ran into problems with those files:
- /dev/xxx
- binary, executable files

I need ideas, scripts
- How to preserve the permissions for the /dev and executable files.
(The PRESERVEPERMISSIONS switch is too strong and complains
about 'hard linkage errors' when rebuilding binaries and committing
    to the repo again!)
- How to distinguish automatically between binaries and text files.
(Automatic control of the -kb switch!)

Cheers,
Ruedi Hofer

Could those with write access to the CVS archive please hold their patches
back until I've commited 2.3.18 or send mail them to me? It'll make myself
life easier as I'm currently with several source trees which I have to
merge into a single one. Thanks,

  Ralf

I've just commited Linux 2.2.8 into the CVS archive. Once this is
finished I'll create a branch named linux_2_2 for the 2.2 development
in the archive. If you just do ``cvs update'' you'll stay on the
mainline of the development, that is 2.3. If you want to work with
the 2.2 sources then you'll have to add the option ``-r linux_2_2''
to your next cvs update or cvs co command.

I'm already running 2.2.9 and 2.3.1 on my Indy but the checkin is that
slow that I won't commit these versions into the CVS archive now.

What happend to the CVS ChangeLog? It hasn't been modified since 98/06/15.
Quite handy thing otherwise.
