Subject: [Qemu-devel] Video modes problems with 0.6.1 Cirrus and Win98SE as Guest
Date: Tue, 23 Nov 2004 09:53:05 +0100 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <419C90EF00010CB0@mail-8.tiscali.it> (raw)
Hi,
I recently downloaded and installed on my Mandrake 10.0 OE the latest (0.6.1)
version of QEMU, and since then I'm trying to setup a guest Win98SE.
The Win98SE installation went fine, but I'm not able to change the display
resolution from 640x480x16. Win98 PnP manager recognizes and installs a
"Generic Monitor" (also tried to force a 1024x768 SVGA Monitor, but with
no effect) and a Cirrus 5446 PCI VGA.
If I set the resolution changer applet in the taskbar, it shows only 640x480x16;
if I right click on the desktop and try to change the resolution from there,
it allows me to set 800x600 or 1024x768 with 256 or 65K colors, but when
I apply the changes I'm forced to reboot, and I receive a "Windows protection
fault" when the system tries to set the new resolution. Rebooting again,
the resolution is back to 640x480x16.
I'm googled around for hints, but found nothing (the Cirrus support on the
0.6.x QEMU is supposed to work on every Win version); only info about the
SSD "trick" used before the Cirrus emulation.
Any suggestion on what I should try next, or on what further info I should
supply?
Thank you in advance
Carlo
