I am having exactly the same problem, the only difference being the 
model of drive.  Mine is a WD2000.  The sata_sil module loads ok though, 
if the drive is not connected.  If it is connected, hard lock.  Tested 
on 2.4.25, 2.6.9, 2.6.10.
