In my experience, it's very reliable for normal usage. I run apache + php + rrdttol + mysql on Xen running on gnbd-imported devices (I was interested in the live migrate feature). It was great for normal usage. The live migrate was rather buggy though. Occasionally (not often) I found domains can't be accessed at all after migrated. This was with Xen 2.0. I haven't tested 2.0.3 much. IMHO LVM-based storage should be better (in performance) than gnbd.
