Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer: It depends on the compiler, target processor, and 
optimization levels.  Usually it will be a "shift by 8" (which may or 
may not actually be a shift -- see the PowerPC "Swiss Army Knife[tm]" 
instruction rlwimi).
