Edwin, could you post your ifconfig -a output
(which displays *all* interfaces, even those currently
 in DOWN state)?

Also, if you are able to test on a xen box, could
you run through the xend start and see the output
of network-bridge in xend.log and also check netstat -rn
at the end?
