Have you checked which socket the line in is connected to. If it is the Line in, you will get stereo, If it is the Mic in, you will get a single channel. If you are recording from the CD/Aux input on the sound card, linked internally to the CD player, then you might have a valid problem. As a general note, playback features on cards has been well tested, capture features have not be so well tested, so you might just have noticed a bug.
