ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/akpm/patches/2.6/2.6.17-rc3/2.6.17-rc3-mm1/

- Added git-rbtree.patch to the -mm lineup (David Woodhouse). It shrinks
  the rb-tree nodes.

- Added git-sas.patch to the -mm lineup (James Bottomley). aic94xx serial
  attached storage driver.

- Added git-supertrak.patch to the -mm lineup (Jeff Garzik). A driver for
  Promise SuperTrak controllers, from Promise.

Boilerplate:

- See the `hot-fixes' directory for any important updates to this patchset.

- To fetch an -mm tree using git, use (for example)

  git fetch git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/smurf/linux-trees.git v2.6.16-rc2-mm1

- -mm kernel commit activity can be reviewed by subscribing to the
  mm-commits mailing list.

        echo "subscribe mm-commits" | mail majordomo@vger.kernel.org

- If you hit a bug in -mm and it is not obvious which patch caused it, it is
most valuable if you can perform a bisection search to identify which patch
introduced the bug. Instructions for this process are at

        http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/linux/patches/stuff/bisecting-mm-trees.txt

But beware that this process takes some time (around ten rebuilds and
reboots), so consider reporting the bug first and if we cannot immediately
identify the faulty patch, then perform the bisection search.

- When reporting bugs, please try to Cc: the relevant maintainer and mailing
  list on any email.

Hi Andrew,

Any specific reasons the header cleanup trees weren't added? I had
thought David asked for these to be included. Perhaps my memory fails
me...

I'll get onto that later in the month. I also need to bring in the klibc
tree. The two might apparently interact - we'll see..

Ok. Sounds like it could be fun.. :)

Hi Andrew,

If it makes your life easier I'd be happy to produce a klibc tree on
top of the header cleanup tree. klibc really should be built against
the exported headers, which should both make klibc easier to maintain
and provide a degree automatic testing of the exported headers.

klibc is independent today and I really suggest to leave it so until
header cleanup tree has been merged.
Otherwise we would end up in a situation where klibc are ready but due
to dependency on header cleanup we had to wait until 2.6.19.

So this is a natural next step on top of the header cleanup tree.

I should have been more clear. I have no intention of abandoning the independent klibc
kernel tree, however, I could easily produce a separate tree with the header cleanup merged.

Hi Andrew,

Since a few -mm releases I am seeing processes stuck in a
nanosleep({0, 0}, NULL) syscall. Sometimes, they unfreeze after
several hours.

The processes are urxvtd (rxvt-unicode daemon) or urxvt (rxvt-unicode terminal).
The backtrace from sysrq-t looks like:
...

...
Showing all blocking locks in the system:
S urxvtd:12171 [df51f030, 115] (not blocked on mutex)

Was it already reported ? If not I'll test a vanilla kernel and start bisecting.

thanks,

Benoit

No, I haven't seen such a report in some time.

> If not I'll test a vanilla kernel and start bisecting.

Thanks. Yes, please test mainline first - it will probably occur there.

And it's a nanosleep(zero) all the time? The obvious answer would be that
a clock tick came in at the right time and we end up trying to sleep for -1
units. But if that was the case, things wouldn't unsleep after just
several hours.

I don't see how that should happen. The expiry time is stored in
absolute time format when nanosleep is started and compared against
current time in the softirq. We might miss one tick, but not more.

Benoit, can you please mail me .config and a boot log ?

Can you change the debug that way? So we have the values which are
added. Please print out new_base->id too.

Well, ktime_add is adding two 64 bit values.

The delta between the two values is 0xFFFFFFB3451. That looks like the
timekeeping on your box is screwed by 0x100000000000.

John, any idea ?

I suspect the system is falling back to the PIT instead of the ACPI PM
due to mis-merged patch in 2.6.17-rc3-mm1. The PIT has had a few reports
of problems, and I've got a test patch which I'm waiting for some
results on from a tester before sending (I can't reproduce the issue
locally).

Applying the patch here should get the ACPI PM working again.

I have just noticed that the support for 1Gb low mem has been dropped.

It's risky and breaks stuff and caused Andi to go on an extensive debugging
session because someone diddled with it.

So we hid it behind CONFIG_EMBEDDED, which has kinda come to mean
CONFIG_YOU_DONT_WANT_TO_FUTZ_WITH_THIS_STUFF.

I am running with the above patch for few days and I couldn't reproduce
the bug with it. So it looks good.
