There might be a > way to avoid that, but I haven't been able to figure it out. No, there isn't. xenlinux has hijacked major 4 from the vt subsystem for the xenconsole. IMHO that was a bad idea in the first place. UML made the same mistake btw. Now we have the situation that you can have either the framebuffer + vt or xenconsole, never both.
