Actually I had exactly your issue on an ICH6 and ended up working around it by moving to Alan's latest libata code. 0000:00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) IDE Controller (rev 03) If you were to patch up IDE I'd be happy to run up a couple of test kernels and test it out on an Intel chipset also.
