I will look into it in a more deep way. There are a lot of default paths that do not really make sense and we should review. For instance we install some stuff in / other in /usr. but /usr can be on its own partition and not mounted at the time we start the cluster making some bits unavailable and so on. Anyway it is possible to override all of them by configure and I agree we should be more consistent across. We should also look into other dependencies like openais, libxml2 and etc. and see how far we can get but at some point it needs to be a distribution decision where to place the whole thing.
