Hello Andrew.

Yes it was a typo and I have actually tried to grep both ways 12x30 
(correct) and 10x30.

I have the feeling that a step is being left out.

There is a lot of information in /etc/fonts that I don't understand how 
to manipulate including:
root@kinda fonts # ls
conf.avail  conf.d  fonts.conf  fonts.dtd
