Hi folks,
since it seems I'm the only one interested in PR material, there's no point in
waiting until someone else does it ;) I have attached a proposal, please at
least give me some input to make this a) include the most important points
and b) read like english.
Cheers,
:M:

"OpenEmbedded is Debian-based" - It isn't, the distros built with it
*might* be.
"Quality Assurance is achieved through automated sanity tests at build
time and runtime -- using the Qemu emulator." - We don't use qemu for
that, but insane.bbclass and testlab.bbclass.
"GCC Toolchains for a variety of target architectures like arm, mips,
ppc, i386, including lots of variants and flavours" - Mention avr32 there.
"Flashable Images integrate a package management system" - Mention .ipk
and .deb there (how's .rpm nowadays?).
"Examples include award-winning distributions like OpenZaurus, Ångström,
Familiar Linux, OpenSIMpad, OpenDreambox, OpenSlug, and OpenMoko. " - At
least OZ, familiar and OS are dead, so better mention them after
Angstrom, SlugOs, OpenDreambox and OpenMoko.
One point I'm missing is "customization", be it CFLAGS or shlib
renaming, it is one of the main features of OE.
Apart from those small points it's looking pretty good.
regards,
Koen

Hi Michael,
please mention Java as a supported programming language and SWT as a
possible UI toolkit.
Additional feature:
- can be used to build package for foreign (non OE-made) distributions
like Maemo, OpenWRT, ...

I am interested in pr as well but the issue is that I am working now on making
the oe-docs and oe presence in china work out.
So the fosdem work got a bit stuck in the pipeline.
At this moment I reached that we have presence in a datacenter there pretty
soon and that we will can take part in several events .
Two problems remain :
-Who want to go there ?
-Can I register the chinese domainnames without any problems ?
Fosdem:
-Last year I tried to make banners but got scammed for several hunderd euro's
-I have a press release ready but it is waiting approval from the core team .
I will bring for sure my AVR32 board, if ready zigbee stuff
Is it already for sure we can show the freerunner ?
Regards,
Gerwinin

1. it is #oe not #openembedded
2. we have over 5000 recipes now
3. mention Qtopia in display subsystems/UI toolkits
4. mention building software for external distributions like Maemo,
OpenWRT
I like layout and idea.

Sharp ROM? Not sure if that is still very important as a selling point
for OE, though. But I just "sold" it this week on exactly this proposition.

Hi guys,
the attachement contains the second iteration. I have taken all of
your suggestions into account, slightly improved the layout and
switched to a non-bitmap OE logo.
Please proof-read.
Who could print 500 (if possible, in color) and bring it to FOSDEM?
Cheers,
Mickey.

The shadow under the "Embedded" word in the OE logo tends to blur out
the word - can it be made lighter (or make the word darker)?

If it isn't too late and you think it adds to the OE "story", you
might mention that Gumstix Inc. is using OE as the development
environment for its products.

In a more general sense, should we list hardware that we support?
I know it is a bit late, but could we use both sides of the sheet?

I am against it.
We have machine configs which no one tests (like some of omap devboards
for example or progear) and adding new ones is quite easy. Flyer already
lists architectures available in OE (including avr32 which situation
in .dev is not resolved yet(?)).
And listing all machines will take half of page ;D

It still might be worth adding that OE supports all of: 1) HW vendor
development boards, 2) device prototypes IHV/research groups work on, 3)
on- or close-to- market devices from vendors, 4) consumer-level devices
with community support.
Though it's pretty good without that too ;-).

Not critical, but please use European spacing, not American.
That is, use word spacing only, not intercharacter spacing.
Especially it shows in the last part of the 2nd column.
It looks better and Europeans are used to it.
Great job!

How about mentioning hw vendors that have shown support by supplying HW
or by using OE in their products.
I realize the flyer is basically full. I'm glad we have a start on the
flyer, even if we haven't worked out all the issues. Updating an
existing flyer is much easier than starting from scratch.

Ah, that was actually an artefact of using center justification, which
does not make much sense for small columns like this. I have now
switched the main text to using ragged margins, this works better.
Thanks.

This, and my time slot for working on it ;)

Right. We can iterate more after FOSDEM.

Final version now. Logo changed, ragged margins, some typos fixed.
NOTE: There is now a 15% transparent OE logo composited over the full
page, please check whether your PDF rasterizer honors this setting,
_before_ printing 1K or so ;) If you experience problems printing
this, I can remove it again.
Sponsoring info can go at the lower bottom, there's space for a full
line. If you do so, please consider using 50% to 70% black, not full
black.

After some wrestling with the 7 year old CUPS running on an even
older HPUX in our university I've now printed a poster, a rather funny
interpretation of the handout as well as 200 copies of it - correctly
rendered.
Half of these copies have the handout on the front and back because the
printer didn't honor my Duplex=None option or I'm stupid.
Regards,
Daniel Willmann

A true Ninja would separate the pages with nothing but his hands. Are you a
true Ninja?
