If I deactivate Core support in BIOS, all work fine. [2.] Full description of the problem/report: I have a XPS M1330 with a Intel Core 2 DUO T7500, 4GB of memory, noswap (only 32GB of SSD hard drive). I run a greedy java process on this computer with a renice +19. The top command shows that this process get between 95% and 100% of one of the cpu. All other application become very slow and almost unusable. The overall memory used is about 1,5 GB. If I deactivate the core 2 supports (only 1 cpu), then all work fine (see note at the end). Actually, with the core 2 support, I limit the process cpu consumption using cpulimit to 50%. So the java process only use 50% of one cpu: the system work fine (graphical application with normal priority are reactive). My non specialist explanation: It seems that there is a problem with the scheduling regarding to the shared cache of the cpus in a core 2 duo. As the scheduler give alway one cpu to the java process, this lead to a lot of cache fault and slow down all other applications.
