ah, back at that workstation, i found, that i was using a build of
binutils, installed via the ubuntu-toolchain-r ppa:
ld -v
GNU gold (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu 2.20) 1.9
i am pretty sure, it is related to this, will try to compile an
unpatched kernel now ...
