What's wrong with

     gitk master..branch_1 branch_2 branch_3 branch_4 branch_5
or
     gitk --branches --not master

? (I do that all the time.) Recall that 'master..branch_1' is short for
'^master branch_1'. It is sufficient to specify the negative ref, ^master,
only once.
